Adding and Managing User Accounts<\/h4>\n

In terms of building collaborative networks, the power of WordPress rests in the possibility for the administrator to integrate new members, either manually, by adding new user accounts, or automatically, by enabling new users to register. In either case, it is the administrator\u2019s responsibility to determine the default role of each new member upon registration, knowing that each role is defined by a specific set of capabilities\u00a0(1).<\/p>\n

The Slidefolio post pertaining to the Dashboard’s “Users” pane provides an overview of the configuration options available by default to the administrator (in the case of self-registration, only the first two form fields shown in the screen capture are required [2]).<\/p>\n

The development of a conceptually dedicated network solution such as NetPlusUltra\u00ae therefore requires two types of plugins which must be compatible with each other:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A plugin enabling the\u00a0customization of self-registration forms (3).<\/li>\n
  2. A plugin enabling\u00a0paid memberships, by type of subscription plan and content (4):\n
      \n
    1. With internal (i.e. network-specific) service-leveling options for existing subscriptions:\n
        \n
      1. allowing a registered member to change his subscription plan (i.e. service level agreement),<\/li>\n
      2. or to enhance the latter as he progresses from one step (or service sublevel) to the next.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Although such a level of customizability suffices to conceptually secure an installation by making it unique, the problem with such extensions lies in their third-party nature, considering that the more registered users a service network counts, the more it needs to be able to rely on the self-sustainability of the layer components through which it is provided.<\/p>\n
