Step 2

Installing MySQL and WordPress

In order to create a WordPress website, you will have to choose between the automatic setup, which provides by default for the one-click-installation of a module into your root directory (if it is empty), or the manual (advanced) setup, which will enable you to determine not only the details pertaining to the MySQL database to be associated with the WordPress module, but also the information about the website itself (administrator name, associated domain name, user interface language, name and installation path of the module on the server).

In general, it is rather reassuring to know, before venturing into dedicated territory, that OVH’s shared web hosting plans are flexible and scalable enough to enable a well-organized project initiator to test and develop his·her website(s) under real conditions, by starting with the Personal pack if necessary (one database [1]), with a view to a subsequent migration to the Professional version thereof (four databases [2]), which is most likely to ultimately lead to the most appropriate Performance scenario (five databases [3]).

In more specific terms of the unease that might come with having to handle a MySQL database (4), it is also important to know that a serious upstream conception of the web project considerably reduces the risk of having to fix database table errors through phpMyAdmin (5) later on. The same holds true with regard to a careful definition of which roles and responsibilities (6) shall be attributed to each intended (group of) user(s).
